| Here are answers to some of the questions you may have about our parts and procedures.
Ordering
Q: How do I submit a Request for Quote?
A: We don't require a request for quote, nor do we respond to them. All items are shown with the sale price on our website. Items with quantity discounts are also offered. If no quantity discount is shown, none is offered.
Q: Why do I receive this message when ordering?
MESSAGE: Item not updated, problem occurred while updating this item, there may not be enough in-stock.
A: You have attempted to purchase more than we have in stock. Revise the quantity to a lower number to remove the message. And no, we don't have more than what the system will allow you to order.
Our shopping cart system will not allow ordering of Out of Stock items. If you wish to be notified when an out of stock item becomes available again, use the Contact Us form and we will add you to our want/wish lists.
Q: Do you have a minimum order? A: No, but please be aware our minimum shipping charge is approximately $6.
Q: Can I pay by mail? A: Unfortunately, no. We accept major credit cards and PayPal only.
Q: Do you accept orders from countries other than the USA? A: Yes! We ship only to countries listed in the drop-down countries list on the register and checkout pages. All international shipments are sent via traceable means - usually registered first class mail. Regretably, we do not ship to Italy. Italian customs regulations broadly prohibit many electronic items.
Q: How do I check the status of my order? A: Log into your account, and click on the order you wish to check on - the order status is updated daily.
Q: How do I enter the coupon code to receive a discount? A: At checkout, there is a box presented labeled "Coupon Code". Simply enter the coupon code exactly as presented. Our coupon codes do not include spaces. Once entered, the discount is applied and is shown before final checkout. If the discount is not shown, back up and reenter the code. Please note that minimum order amounts may apply - see discount announcement for details. Minimum order amounts do not include shipping.
Q: What if I want to return what I bought? A: Contact us first, within 7 days of receipt. We will refund your original purchase price, LESS FREIGHT/SHIPPING, and a 15% restocking fee upon our receipt of the original item. All items returned must be complete in the exact same condition we sent it to you. You must ship it back to us prepaid.
Capacitors
Q: You talk about your FP can electrolytic capacitors being "reformed." What's that? A: The dielectric in an electrolytic capacitor is chemically formed as voltage is applied and gradually deteriorates during periods of disuse. If a capacitor that has not been used in many years is suddenly pressed into service at full working voltage, the deteriorated dielectric may not be able to reform itself fast enough to keep the internal leakage current to a safe value. Excessive leakage can cause the capacitor to heat up and be damaged or explode, or develop an internal short circuit. To say a capacitor has been reformed means that the rated voltage has been recently applied to it in order to return the insulation to a safe value. We use the Sencore LC102 to reform all of our electrolytic capacitors. The procedure safely applies a current limited voltage to the capacitor, allowing the capacitor to undergo a chemical change that restores the dielectric to, or very close to, it's original state. The US Government uses a similar reforming procedure, outlined in MIL-HDBK-1131A.
NOS
Q: On the warranty page you say I should assume your NOS parts have some "oxidation.""
A: "Oxidation" refers to a change in the surface of a part, however minor, as a result of exposure to air during long-term storage. A solder-plated surface may become dull or dark gray. The severity of the change depends on many factors, including age, packaging, and the amount of humidity in the air. Such changes are a normal part of aging and will occur as long as there is oxygen in the storage environment. When more than a slight amount of oxidation is present on a part we generally will call that to your attention in the description. The important thing to keep in mind is that many NOS parts do not look as "shiny new" as they did when they left the factory years ago and leads may have to be polished (remove the oxidation layer) before soldering to them. If appearance matters, let us know and we'll confirm the condition for you before shipping.
RoHS
Q: Are your components RoHS compliant? A: Generally, No. Unless otherwise noted, components and assemblies sold by Talon Electronics LLC are not RoHS compliant. With many surplus items, makers and lot numbers vary even within the same values/types, and it is nearly impossible to determine RoHS category.
